Isak is a specialist wildlife photographic guide from South Africa. His discovery of nature’s special moments at a young age shaped his aspirations of today: to showcase the beauty of his continent’s natural wonders in a creative way.
His bird and wildlife images have won multiple awards and been celebrated nationally and internationally in many publications. His preferred genre of fine art bird photography is easily recognisable by their authentic style, simplistic design and technical skill.
Isak’s passion for nature is fuelled by the reminiscence of a classic Africa and his aim is to create conservation awareness for his continent’s natural wonders. He is not only focussing his attention on photographic assignments throughout the African continent, but also on offering private photographic safaris with avid amateur and professional photographers.
Having hosted many groups of photographers in Africa, Isak has taken on a keen interest in educating the photographers about their surroundings as well as teaching them the art of photography.
Isak’s images regularly feature in commercial and private calendars, post cards and other media. Africa Geographic is the biggest wildlife specific magazine in Southern Africa and approached Isak to feature his images in both the 2013 Birds and Mammal calendars for that year.
BBC Wildlife is often regarded as the benchmark for wildlife photographers from around the world. In 2011 Isak embarked on a mission to capture the beauty and contrast of the Flamingoes of East Africa. He was naturally thrilled when the BBC selected to feature a portfolio of his work on their website, Discover Wildlife in 2013.
Without a doubt, the highlight of Isak’s photographic career was winning the 2013 BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year’s Bird Behaviour category for his image “Trapped”. As the leading photographic competition in the world, they are a big inspiration, and so Isak naturally feels privileged to receive this honour.
Isak’s image “Richtersveld Night Sky” was a Highly Honored Winner in the Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards 2011 in the Plant Life category. “Jumping Wildebeest” also received a Commended position in the African Wildlife category in the same year.
Regarded as South Africa’s leading photographic competition Isak has placed regularly in the Getaway/Fuji Wildlife Photographic competition since 2008. His image “Oxpecker on Buffalo” was runner-up in the Birds Category in 2008 and in 2009 he received six places in the competition in a single year – the most by any photographer in this competition.
The leading nature and outdoor magazines regularly feature the images of Isak. These include Getaway, Go/Weg, Africa Geographic and Birdlife South Africa. Go/Weg magazine featured Isak portfolio of the Maasai Mara in 2011 and of East Africa’s flamingoes in 2013.
