Private Photographic Guiding, Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana

6 July 2012

We spent the afternoon at the bee-eater hide. As always, they showed up in the golden light and entertained us for a while. As the sun went down a herd of elephants decided to join…

Eland, kudu, steenbok, elephant, impala and lots of birds were some of the species we saw in the morning from the elephant hide. I spent the afternoon doing some maintenance at the hides and putting up new perches for the birds… can’t wait for tomorrow morning to see if it will work!

Elephants, elephants, and more elephants from the elephant hide this morning. The water level dropped significantly so I had to let the pump run for the whole day. We returned this afternoon to a full water hole and got some great shots of kudu and baboons drinking in the last light of day. Another session tomorrow morning before returning home!

We woke up to some very strange weather this morning. Overcast and windy! From experience this is not good conditions for hide photography but we were pleasantly surprised to see a herd of elephants beating us to the hide before sunrise. The morning was very busy with herd after herd pushing their way in to get some water! Turned out to be a very successful morning in the end!
